Apply for European Space Agency App Camp 2012

Do you like creating apps? Do you like working with a lot of data? Do you like Italy? Well, then you might want to apply for the App Camp of the European Space Agency. Participants can be from all over Europe (including Turkey – and, more surprising, Canada). ESA will be paying expenses.

Best of Mobile World Congress 2012 so far

The Mobile World Congress kicked off today and we knew it would bring some big announcements. The rush started with the first press conferences even before one of the world's most important mobile events took off. Until now, there are a number of mobile devices introduced by HTC, LG, Nokia, Sony and others. From megapixel record breaking cameras to quad core brute processing power, we will just have a general overview of where the MWC is taking mobile communication.

Mobile World Congress 2012 preview

The biggest event in the mobile world is the Mobile World. Mobile World Congress, that is. Last year we reported live from Barcelona, where the complete mobile industry meets yearly (except for Apple, traditionally). This year we will not be present but will keep you posted on the most important announcements. Naturally, everybody is keeping a low profile before the event kicks off on Monday but until the event is over on March 1st, we should hear some more or less groundbreaking announcements. Ericsson Application Awards deadline closing in: €15,000 to win

The final deadline for the Ericsson Application Awards 2012 is less than two weeks away. Developers can submit their apps under the motto "Apps for the Networked Society" until February 28. The top prize is €15,000 plus the exposure via Ericsson's distribution channels. Meanwhile, European regulators have given green light for Sony's takeover of the Ericsson half of the joint venture.

Google has announced a new date for the Google I/O 2012, and extended the conference from 2 to 3 days. Furthermore, there will be some kind of selection process to ensure only real developers register.

AppCircus Vienna: mobile-pocket.com wins over MyTaxi

Yesterday's Mobile Monday was special. It hosted the Viennese edition of the AppCircus, the travelling showcase of mobile apps. Ten finalists got to pitch their app before an audience of mobile conaisseurs. The prize of a nomination to present at the Mobile Premier Awards 2012 in Barcelona. One app came out victorious: mobile-pocket.com won ahead of MyTaxi. We were there to cover the event and got a chance to talk to the winner.

Windows Phone Mango Development Workshop: Vienna, Nov 18th

The Google/Samsung/Ice Cream Sandwich/Galaxy/Nexus Prime event is about to kick off in a few hours. The mobile tech world waits in anticipation to see what Android's answer will be to the iPhone 4S/iOS 5. The two leading mobile OSs will be measured by their features and the hardware to run it. Can Android make an impact after the iPhone 4S sold so well in the first days after the launch? Tim Berners-Lee was speaking at the future.talk 2011 of the Telekom Austria Group. The "father" of the WWW called upon the participants to remember the basics, the internet was built upon: openness & decentralism. Misuse of data and the patent craziness were also amongst the topics discussed by Berners-Lee and other panellists.

EclipseCon Europe: Celebrating 10 years of Eclipse

It has been 10 year since Eclipse has been released by IBM. It was made an open source project, which eventually became the IDE of choice for Java. The upcoming EclipseCon conference in Ludwigsburg, Germany, will be held November 2-4 to pay tribute to the development environment with a number of high profile speakers.

Registration for the Google Developer Day in Prague is open now. The one day event addresses mobile as well as desktop developers and will present new developments in Android, Chrome, HTML5, Cloud et cetera. It will take place October 18th. Developers can also register for a Moscow event, while registration for the "GDD" taking place in Berlin will open in two weeks only.
