The next in the line of Galaxy smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy SIII has been revealed. It comes with a 4.8 inch 720p display in a slim body with references to natural, organic curves. The new flagship phone matches the current high-end specs and tries to emphasize the software enhancements on top of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Human-like interaction is the main theme throughout the software, trying to understand and adapt to the needs of the user.

The next Samsung flagship has to satisfy them to compete with recent smartphone revelations, including its sibling, the Galaxy Nexus. The rumored specs of the upcoming member of the S series are hinting towards a powerhouse of a smartphone.

Gartner: 98% tablet sales increase from 2011 to 2012

A new Gartner study assumes that tablet sales will nearly double in 2012, as compared to 2011. 118.9 million units are to be sold worldwide this year according to the analysts. Android is already an important competitor in the iPhone-dominated market. Microsoft and RIM will need a few years to acquire a mentionable market share, Gartner says.

MIPS Technologies and Ingenic Semiconductor joined forces to bring a very cheap Android tablet to the market. The basis for the low price is the use of the MIPS architecture instead of the ARM technology - dominant among mobile devices. The Novo7 will also be the first tablet running the newest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version. The device was launched in China, further regions of the world are to follow.

After Amazon, book retailer Barnes & Noble is bringing an Android powered tablet to the U.S. market. Similar to Amazon's nomenclature, the Barnes & Noble proposition will be called Nook Tablet, just like their own eReader, offering multimedia capabilities next to the eReader functionality. Are tablets on the way to replace books and magazines in the long run completely?

Nokia has announced their first Windows Phone device yesterday, the Nokia Lumia 800. As expected, it looks just like the Nokia N9, with very slight differences on the hardware front. On the software side, it is completely new – instead of MeeGo, there is Windows Phone powering the smartphone. The announcement comes earlier than initially scheduled – Windows Phone handsets were not to come out before 2012. Will this be enough to pull Nokia out of their smartphone slump?

Not bad Amazon. According to quite reliable estimates, the Kindle Fire was ordered 95,000 times - on the very first day of pre-ordering. That's about a third of the iPad order numbers on its first day, but already half of what RIM sold throughout three months.

Sometimes secrets are best kept loosely. For the mobile world this definitely applies. It has been an open secret that Amazon was planning to release a tablet to go along with their newly launched Appstore for Android. The device has been officially introduced now, but details as to what it is and what has under the hood remain mostly unconfirmed. The 7 inch tablet is reportedly running a customized version of Android 2.1. It comes with a price tag of $199 and will be heavily powered by the cloud.
