AppCircus Vienna: mobile-pocket.com wins over MyTaxi
22.11.2011 17:26
Yesterday's Mobile Monday was special. It hosted the Viennese edition of the AppCircus, the travelling showcase of mobile apps. Ten finalists got to pitch their app before an audience of mobile conaisseurs. The prize was a nomination to present at the Mobile Premier Awards 2012 in Barcelona. One app came out victorious: mobile-pocket.com won ahead of MyTaxi. We were there to cover the event and got a chance to talk to the winner.
The Austrian mobile community got together to crown the winner of the AppCircus' Austrian edition. In the halls of the Museum of Natural History, the ten nominated start-ups took the stage to present their apps. It was not an easy task, as the time for the presentation was limited to three minutes to convince the audience and the jury to be worthy of the trophy. The prize was the nomination to present at the Mobile Premier Awards 2012 in Barcelona on the occasion of the Mobile World Congress.
The jury and the audience were equally important, as the public was invited to vote via SMS for their favorite. The judges could have contradicted the popular voice, but in the end they confirmed the winner of the SMS voting.
The victorious app turned out to be mobile-pocket.com, an app which stores your membership card information inside your smartphone. Carrying around countless loyalty cards to take advantage of regular customer discounts is not necessary any more. The app displays the barcode with the customer information to be scanned at the counter. There are versions available for Android and iPhone, Symbian and BlackBerry implementations are in the making. We had a short chat with Martin Sprengseis from bluesource, the company behind mobile-pocket.com.
To finish second was myTaxi, a disruptive taxi ordering service connecting the customer directly with the driver. Among the participants was Bernd Ruprechter with his SOLight app, which we introduced earlier. We wish all the best to Martin Sprengseis and the mobile-pocket.com team for their presentation at the Mobile Premier Awards 2012 in Barcelona.
